You Will Be Judged

You will be judged.

No matter what you do or not do.
Say or not say.
Choose or not choose.

You. Will. Be. Judged.

Does this sound familiar?

You’re too dressed up.
You’re not dressed enough.

You’re too fat.
You’re too thin (not fat enough?)

You’re trying too hard. You look overdone.
Put some makeup on. You look dull.

Your hair is too short. Your hair is too long.
What happened to your hair?

Too uptight.
Too provocative.

Too loud.
Too quiet.

Too mysterious.
Not mysterious enough.

Women live in the continuum between ‘not enough’ and ‘too much’.

No matter what you decide to do, there’s always going to be someone who seems to know better.

Even during a global crisis. Maybe now more than ever.

‘You’re not saying enough’
‘You’ve said too much.’

‘You’re not leading enough’
‘You need to tone it down’

‘You’re not sensitive enough’
‘You’re too sensitive’

‘You don’t suffer enough’
‘That’s too much pain’

Can anyone just tell me how to be?

Is there a script out there I can use to pretend I know what to say and what to do and how to be?

No.

There is no script. And if you’re compelled to use a script or someone else’s words you’re missing the point.

You’re giving your power away.

Stop. Giving. Your. Power. Away.
You’re not a puppet.

Inhale.
Exhale.
You have everything you need inside of YOU.

Breathe.
Pause.

Connect to your body.
What do you need today?
What do you need to say, share, comment on?

Say the thing (or don’t)
Do the thing (or don’t)
Share the thing (or don’t)
Comment on the thing (or don’t)

Trust yourself.
I trust women who trust themselves.

No matter what action you decide to take on global issues, remember that the hardest and most important job you’re doing is in your home with your kids, husband and family.

You are a front line worker.

If you don’t have the energy for other ‘more important things’ that’s OK.

Taking care of kids fulltime,
Making a million meals a day,
Creating and following a daily schedule,
Making sure everyone is on top of their school work,
Ensuring everyone had enough outdoor time,
Controlling screen time,
Staying connected,
Living with authenticity, purpose, meaning…

All of these things are hard enough.
All these things are important enough.

Before everything else, you are a woman, wife and mother.

If basics is all you’ve got right now then let it be.

Stop half-assing your life.
Do the basics. Do them well.

You’ll be judged anyway, might as well live your message and enjoy your life in the process.

Xo,
D
